CFUW Secondary School Awards

Supporting educational opportunities for young women in our community.

Students must apply through their school's guidance counsellor. Please do not submit applications directly to CFUW Aurora/Newmarket.

Application Process

Applications for these awards must be received electronically by the Guidance Department of your school by APRIL 15 and include the following:

1.  A 500-word essay that includes paragraphs that outline

  • challenges you have overcome

  • your positive attitude/work ethic

  • your contributions to your school and/or community

  • how this award will assist you with your post-secondary education

Format your essay with a header that includes

  • your full name

  • secondary school name

  • cell phone number​

  • personal email address (NOT  your school email address as we need to be in contact with you after you graduate)

2.  A copy of your post-secondary acceptance.

NOTE - If you have not received your acceptance by APRIL 15, please attach a document that includes

  • names and postal addresses of the post-secondary institutions to which you have applied

  • name of the program and length (e.g., Life Sciences—four-year program; Journalism—two-year program)
    to which you have applied

  • expected dates of acceptance

To be eligible, the female applicants must

  • be a Canadian citizen or permanent resident of Canada

  • be a graduating student who has been accepted by a post-secondary institution (university, college, or apprenticeship program)

  • benefit from financial support to continue their education

  • have overcome challenges to graduate from high school

  • have demonstrated a positive attitude and work ethic

  • be involved in school and/or community activities

  • be receiving no more than one other school or community award

Note:  Students taking a gap year after graduation are not eligible to apply for these awards.

Eligibility

Female graduating students from the following secondary schools in York Region are eligible to apply for this award:

Selection Process

Applications for the CFUW Aurora/Newmarket Secondary School Award will be collected by the Guidance Department of the eligible schools.

Based on the applications received, the following review process will be used:

  • School Level - If a school has more than one applicant, these applications will be reviewed by staff to select ONE application to forward to the CFUW Charitable Trust Awards Committee.

  • CFUW Aurora/Newmarket Charitable Trust – Students will be selected by the Awards Committee from the applications submitted from the schools to receive the Secondary School Award.
